Practice Updates

Fall clinics are set. They'll run September 3 through October 24thPractices will be held Monday-Thursday.  For 6-8 year olds, practices are from 4:00-4:45, and for 9&Ups, 4:45-5:45

Don't forget to use your age as of June 15th, 2024 to decide which practice to attend. Some swimmers on the lower end of the age group breakdown may be released from practice 5-10 minutes early from time to time, depending on several factors. 6-year-olds may only participate if they swam on the team this past summer.

Please remember to put the Sunday, 8/25 Award Ceremony on your calendars.  It will tentatively run from 2:00 to 4:30 PM.  It's one last chance to say goodbye and celebrate a great year of swimming for ALL of our stingrays that were on swim team this year.  Also, don't forget to indicate your plan to attend on TeamUnify.  This will allow the coaches to be better prepared for the speeches that they'll be trying to give for each of our 200+ swimmers.

Fall Schedule (8/19-10/27)

(Please Reference the Calendar on the OPP Website for the Swim Team Schedule)

How do we keep the kids in line at practice AND motivated to hoop during non-practice hours?  We have coaches like Coach Caleb!  Today, we get to meet a high energy swimmer that's been with us for over a decade--and one that's going to be helping out this Fall.  Let's get to know a bit more about coach Caleb!

Q: What city does your family currently live in?

A: Orinda

Q: Have you lived there your whole childhood, or did you live somewhere else at some point?

A: I was born in Santa Monica and moved to San Francisco when I was 8 months old. I lived in San Francisco until right before I started Kindergarten when we moved to Orinda.

Q: What school do you attend right now?

A: Miramonte High School

Q: Have you started looking into what college you plan to attend, or what you plan to do next year?

A: I do plan to go to college; however as of now I am not sure what schools I will apply to. Some I am considering are USD, Cal Poly, UCSD, Brown University, and Boston College.

Q: How long have you been swimming at OPP?

A: I have been swimming at OPP since I was 6.

Q: How many years have you been coaching at OPP?

A: I have coached for the past three years.

Q: What were your duties as a coach this year?

A: As a coach this year I took care of the kids I was coaching and helped them become better swimmers while having fun. Before the season started in the Spring, I taught kids one-on-one lessons. As the season began, I coached all regular 10 and under summer practices as well as helped shepherd and manage the swimmers during meets.

Q: Are you coming back as a coach next year?

A: I will be returning as a coach next year. I am already doing lessons this fall and am excited to return to the pool next summer.

Q: Do you participate in any other sports outside of swimming?

A: First and foremost, I love playing pick-up basketball at OPP (shout out to the OPP league). Although I haven't played basketball for any organized team since fifth grade, playing with my friends at OPP has been one of my favorite sports memories. Outside of swimming, I also enjoy working out and going to the gym. I played baseball my first two years of high school and took a break Junior year, when I tried track and field. This year I am planning to play baseball again in the spring.

Q: What are some of your favorite things to do in your free time?

A: I love photography and videography. I mostly do nature and automotive photo and video projects. I also love cars and attending car shows. Additionally, I am a huge music fan, I love so many types of music and play the drums.

Q: Do you have any really good friends that you've been with for years at OPP?

A: Throughout my time at OPP, I have formed lasting bonds and friendships with people who I never would have known if it weren't for swimming.  Some of my best swim friends I don't go to school with or are in different grades/ages. Some of my closest friends on the team are Jack, Declan, Joaquin, Josh, and Kyle (our 3 on 3 squad).

Q: What are some of your best memories from your career at OPP?

A: Some of my best memories are playing in basketball league games, chilling around the pool after practice, and getting my first gold times in OMPA.

Q: Do you have any suggestions for our older swimmers that are trying to take it to the "next level" this winter?

A: For older swimmers, I would say keep putting in the work, get stronger, and push yourself. But also, make sure you can balance your school and social life as these are equally important.

Q: Do you have any advice for our ministinger families that would really like to see their kid swim for the team next year?

A: For ministinger families: Keep getting your kids in the pool, get them comfortable being in the water by themselves and make sure they are enjoying their time in the pool. Just be patient as it takes every swimmer a different amount of time until they are practice and meet-ready.
