The Olympics Are Ending Soon at OPP

We're going to do our best to put the remaining Olympics on the big screen at OPP.  Feel free to stop by and watch your favorites if you have a chance.

Final Calls for Nominating Committee Members

As a reminder, we have 3 open OPP board positions that need to be filled next year: special projects, membership, and secretary.  To help get this process going, we need to find some pool members that would be willing to be a part of the nominating committee.  This is a very minimal position, but an important one.  Committee members will play a role in recruiting potential candidates for the positions, and they'll collect information from the candidates in order for the whole pool to be informed about people running for these positions.  If you're up for it, please reach out to Jake Blackshear to express your desire to be a part of this.  Please respond soon, we'll be moving forward with this process in Monday's board meeting.

Practice Updates

For those of you new to swim, be ready for our Fall clinics schedule to be announced soon.  It's the final stretch of a wonderful year, and it ends with a meet that gets our kiddos focusing on next year and their next level of swimming.

Want to revisit the amazing 2024 Parkumentary video from Niall Battson and Robert Becker?  We've got you covered:  Visit https://www.robertmbecker.com/2024-opp-photos and the password is OPP2024.

ALSO, the final set of ribbons and medals are all in the your ribbon folders.  Please stop by and grab them when you get a chance.  A big thank you to Shannon Nicholls.  Her tireless work on collecting awards, distributing medals, AND finalizing 428 Best Time Ribbons in 2 days cannot be overlooked.

The Long Table Collaboration

We have two Long Table events coming soon.  RSVP for these as soon as you can!

Who will win the Gold?

Join The Long Table at OPP for wine tasting on Friday, August 16, 5-6:30pm. In this new format, you have a chance to learn about three different grape varietals from three different countries. Take to the judges box to rate each of the pours in a blind format, and at the end, we'll salute the gold medal winners.

Must be 21+ to attend, RSVP here.

Poolside Paint & Pour

NEW DATE! Come join OPP member and artist, Gloria Kim, and The Long Table poolside on Sunday, August 25, 11-12:30pm for a watercolor painting class. Learn various techniques as you create your own masterpiece while enjoying a sparkling beverage.

Must be 21+ to attend, RSVP here.

OMPA is over, but is swim season really ever done?  Today, we get to visit with a coach that's working his way up--and hopefully coming back next year.  He's another high energy person with a lot of helpful advice to share with all of the little kiddos.  Today, we meet coach Josh Malutta.

Q: How long have you been swimming at OPP?

A: 11 years. I started the summer before kindergarten.

Q: You did really well on butterfly and freestyle at OMPA.  Any suggestions you can provide to new kids trying to learn to get better at these strokes during the Fall and Winter off season?

A:  I know the sport is about going fast, but take new things you are learning slow. Improving technique takes time and once you feel good about your improvement, then you can swim fast again.

Q: What were some of your favorite memories of this swim year?

A: Seeing my Mini stinger Colin swim his first ever lap of freestyle at 4 years old. I coached him last summer too and his improvement was so amazing to see. Also I loved playing basketball in The League with my team all summer.

Q: How long have you been a coach at OPP?

A:  2 years

Q: What high school do you attend?

A: Miramonte High School

Q: Do you play any other sports during the year?

A:  Water Polo, and I swim for my high school as well.

Q: Do you have any other interests that you spend a lot of time on that are outside of sports?

A:  Playing instruments, and listening to a lot of music.
